Note: If you need immediate assistance with a sump rescue, please contact your local cave rescue organization. In the U.S.A., this is the NCRC. In Europe, contact the ECRA.

Sumps are underwater cave passages with at least one end continuing in dry cave. Cavers may become trapped beyond a sump when normally dry cave passage floods, or divers traveling beyond the sump suffer a problem preventing their normal return. The most famous sump rescue is that of the Thai football team from Tham Luang cave in 2018. This webpage exists to serve rescue personnel in their preparation for, and execution of, rescues from this type of incident.
